A Healthy Lifestyle Can Add a Decade of Disease-Free Living to Your Life!
The BMJ has just released a report that suggested women can gain 10, and men 7, years to their life - completely cancer, heart disease and type-2 diabetes free, from living a healthy lifestyle!
The study is based on 111,000 people whose health was tracked for over 20 years. The lead research Dr Frank Hu of the Harvard School of Public Health suggested this news was a “very positive message for the public.” Not only does leading a healthy lifestyle gives you a longer life, but it also gives you a better life.
Now it’s no shock that leading a healthier life leads to a healthy life. But to know that a healthy lifestyle adds disease-free time to your life is great news for all, and a great incentive for those who do not lead a healthy life.
But what is a healthy lifestyle?
- Never smoking
- A healthy, balanced diet
- 30 minutes or more of exercise a day
- BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
- No more alcohol than a small glass of wine a day for women and a pint of beer for men
The study shows that at least 4 of these 5 criteria should be met to qualify as a “healthy lifestyle”. Simple measures can be taken to fulfil these criteria.
