Wellness In The Home

July 12, 2018

Recently we have focussed largely on wellness in the workplace. However, it is crucial to understand that wellness – and sustaining physical and mental health – doesn’t begin and end at work, but in the home. Having a healthy home not only benefits you, but other people around you whether they be; flatmates, friends or family.

Nevertheless, making this possible, whilst maintaining a busy lifestyle is a tough ask. Ready meals, sugary drinks, and unhealthy snacks are all convenient in the modern world, not to mention takeaway meals are now available at the touch of a button. Balancing an exercise regime and a healthy diet on top of work, and a social life seems to be a never-ending battle for many people. However, we have some tips to help you create a healthy home as easily and as easily as possible.

Exercise is obviously an important area. Nonetheless making time to get to the gym before work or after work can be demanding. Obviously going for a run or pushing yourself to go to the gym are ideal options, but when you are short on time this isn’t always possible. Instead of this, stay on top of your fitness by doing a HIIT (high-intensity interval training) session, or a series of sprints instead of a run. This increases the heart-rate sufficiently enough to burn calories and fat but doesn’t take hours of your time. Exercising regularly not only improves physical health but also mental health – both undoubtedly crucial to your wellbeing.

Preparation is also key. If you have a free evening during the week, help yourself by doing a few days meal prep then. Even if you are cooking for yourself, double the quantities and make enough for the next day. Guaranteeing you have a convenient and healthy meal is half the battle to eating healthily and ensures that there isn’t the temptation to stray towards an unhealthier option during a busy day. Furthermore, having healthy snacks for when you are feeling peckish is imperative. It is easy to eat well and exercise during a day and then take the shine off that by snacking on crisps and chocolate when you get home. Subscribing to our snack-boxes is a great idea to avoid this as it provides a constant supply of delicious and nutritionally approved snacks for you to enjoy.
