In a recent study by CBRE (the largest Commercial real estate and investment firm in the world) and the University of Twente in Holland, 5 different research methods were employed to find out their impact on happiness, productivity, performance, engagement, and health for employees. We will touch on all 5 main areas this week – however, given where we sit in the market our focus is based on the nutritional areas of the research.
The research, using over 100,000 data points and 124 participants, determined that ‘people perform better in a healthy work environment. It also makes people more aware of their health and inspires them to live healthier at home’. When discussing nutrition specifically the research looked into healthier alternatives to sugar and caffeine. This is something we at Healthy Nibbles have focussed on recently, through the promotion of energy drinks such as Nix & Kix which has zero caffeine and less than four grams of sugar per can. Away from specific brands, our nutritional criteria are incredibly strict, we only stock products which are low in sugar, and do not contain artificial preservatives, flavourings or e-numbers to ensure our customers gain the healthiest and most natural products on the market.
Specifically, the results are remarkable if not unsurprising. Healthy nutrition is said to improve work performance ‘based on an objective experiment by 45%’. Furthermore, it improved performance in interviews by 20% and made 78% of participants feel more energised in the workplace. Interestingly in relation to mental health, and the stress we at Healthy Nibbles place on that aspect of nutrition 66% of people said they felt happier for eating healthier. This is stark in comparison to the 36% of people who said they felt happier after exercise. Obviously, we stress the importance of having a balanced diet and life – but these statistics do back up our theory that nutrition is the most important aspect of overall wellness, given its influence on both physical and mental health.
