Revolutionary Vegan Vending

Whether you are a vegan or not, support the movement or not, there is no denying that veganism is growing, it is not a fad, and is a dietary lifestyle that is here for good. With the number of vegans increasing it has been impossible not to notice the improved number of vegan options available on the high street and has seen exclusively vegan restaurants become commonplace across the country.

 

However, an area where vegan friendly food can be hard to come by is in the work-place. Critics would suggest that a vegan person should simply bring their own food into work, however when that isn’t an option many vegans have argued that their need are discriminated whilst at work. The Vegan Society states that discrimination is “being treated worse than others without good reason” and relates this to ‘banter’ within the workplace – but also to the dietary options available to staff. Many companies neglect the dietary needs of vegans in the workplace, which the Vegan Society have stated is an example of ‘direct’ discrimination.

 

Although there are sceptics who believe that there are more important things to worry about in business, even in corporate wellness, direct discrimination must always be challenged in the workplace. Providing a service for some members of staff but not others leads to confrontation, frustration and negative feelings towards a business. Whether you agree with it or not, veganism is a protected belief by European Law and therefore vegan’s rights to practice their belief and even spread their belief must be respected by colleagues and employers alike.
